WHAT IS FENG SHUI? |
Feng Shui is
the Chinese Art of Placement. It originated in the Kwei Lin region of China
approximately 4,000 years ago. It was originally called Kan Yu, and literally
translated means "wind and water". This term, "Feng Shui", refers to the visible
(water), and invisible (wind), energy that surrounds us.

Feng Shui is based on the belief that all things are comprised of energy, and
that this energy has an effect on us whether we are aware of it or not. This is
called "Chi" by the Chinese, "Ki" by the Japanese, "Prana" by Hindus, and is
sometimes described by Westerners as "essence". Whatever it is called, this life
force is a powerful influence on human lives. Chi, or energy, is dispersed by
wind and collected or absorbed by water.
Every ancient culture has a method of feng shui, although they call it by
different names. The native American medicine wheel is very close to the bagua
map that we use in Feng Shui, the ancient Egyptians laid out their pyramids
using what we would call 'Yin Feng Shui', or Feng Shui for the dead, the Hindus
use Vashtu, or Indian Feng Shui. All different names for the same thing. Feng
Shui really is a universal practice and is based on the universal laws and
physics.
Feng Shui is most importantly about helping people achieve harmony and balance
in their environments. Each individual has a different energy and it is very
important to encourage their work or living space to support them in attaining
their goals.
