YIN/YANG THEORY |

What we Americans call the 'yin/yang
symbol' is actually called the taiji tu.
This symbol represents one of the greatest
philosophical ideas in all of Eastern practices.
It
symbolizes the joining together of two separate,(but
equal), opposing, (yet supportive) forces of the
universe. The way that these two powerful forces
combine and relate impacts all of nature.

YIN is the way of the earth. It contracts and
condenses. Yin represents the passive principle in
nature. It represents the realm of the dead. In
human terms, yin is the side of the female.
YANG is the way of heaven. It expands. Yang is
represented by the active principle in nature. It
represents the realm of the living. In human terms,
yang is the side of the male.
Within YANG there is a small piece of YIN, and
within YIN there is a small piece of YANG. There are
no absolutes. You cannot have one without the other.
YIN: earth, female, black, passive, cold, winter,
water, moon, even, death, night, wet, slow, round,
smooth, intuition, below, quiet, religion/philosophy
Yang: heaven, male, white, active, hot, summer,
fire, sun, odd, life, day, dry, fast, squared,
rough, logic, above, loud, mathematics/science
